Watch and learn, as several artisans, artists and craftsmen
showcase their skill by working on their art pieces during
the festival. The Artisans are happy to answer questions!
Become inspired!
Tibetan
Sand Painting
Tibetan monks Geshe Jamyang Sherab and Karma Gyaltsen will
share their skill and culture by painting auspicious symbols
in find grains of coloured sands. This form of sand painting
has not been done in New Zealand before – and the festival
is pleased to host this amazing event. The monks will be set
up in Forum North, and is opened to being viewed free of
charge.

Love
Letters in Cafler Park
Love Letters at Your Feet is a collection of love poems by
Meliors Simms, written in chalk, along the hidden paths and
quirky structures of little Cafler Park, tucked away behind
Forum North.
Chalk, like romantic passion, eventually dissolves, so
make the most of this fleeting chance to walk the paths of
love…
Opening Ceremony for Love Letters
In front of the Central Library, (Buskers Pitch),
Saturday @ 9:30am. Karakia and songs of love with the
Waiata Joy singers of Pehiaweri Marae

Central Library Exhibitions
An
exhibition featuring Northland writers and including early
works from Maori oral tradition.

From Kupe to Contemporary
May Bain Room, Whangarei Central Library, during Library

Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July
The first seeds of an ongoing project of' Whangarei Friends
of the Library, NZ Society of Authors Northland and the
Whangarei Heritage Museum to preserve a historical record of
the words, works and lives of Northland wordsmiths past and
present.
Also short films involving Northland writers.
Children’s Art Competition and
Exhibition
The Whangarei Central Library will host an exhibition of
Children’s Art, as part of the Arts Competition. Entries to
the competition will be exhibited and can be viewed from the
19th July until 1pm the 22nd July.
Vote on your favourite entry!
Members of the public are invited to come into the library,
view the wonderful artwork of our children, and vote on what
you think are the winning pieces. Voting concludes on Sunday
the 22nd July at 1pm.
