Friday 20th July @7:30pm
This concert is going to rock! Encore are the winners
of the latest Rockquest, and Powerhouse came third!
Pleasant Surprise got disqualified for being on stage
too long – and by all reports is arguably one of the top
youth bands around at this time. Non Serviam (with an
‘a’ not ‘u’!) is relatively new on the scene and will blast
the show 15 minute opening slot!
DETAILS:
Pleasant Surprise -
Encore - Jason Kingi on
Lead microphone and ripping rhythm guitar, Ben Kingi on
sweet riffing guitar and screamer, Ryan Thomas on blasting
base and beautiful backing and Hayden Clarke on sticks and
double kick!
Our music is influenced by Killswitch Engage, Underoath,
Metalica, Guns n Roses, Trivium, Still Remains, All That
Remains, Blink 182 and Machine Head. Our band wants to be
part of the show.
Powerhouse -
Non Serviam - Joseph
Wright, Marcus Handley, Tommy Rabbit, Nathan Smith and
Oliver Castle.
Our music is influenced by bands like....Morbid angel, Nile,
Cannibal corpse, Deicide, Mayhem, Burzum, etc. Our band
wants to be part of the show to help spread Whangarei's
youth music around, and also to show people a genre of music
they would otherwise perhaps not get the opportunity to
hear.

In a Northland World Music Concert
Saturday the 21st July @ 8pm
A combination of these two bands and an incredible mix of
highly talented musicians from our neck of the world will
ensure a night of wonderful musical sounds not to be missed.
The Big Belly
Philosophy
Big Belly Woman is not only a band but is an integral
part of a Charitable Trust. Our Trust comes from a Flax
roots, local Maori community base and is situated in the
rural Far North of Rawene, Hokianga. We are
committed to giving putea ($) and Hui- wananga back into
our wider community. We support and employ Whanau and Local
Maori Industry workers within the community of Hokianga and
Aotearoa, to mahi on our projects and performances.
We
are an 8 piece Maori group comprising of luscious vocals,
Taonga Puoro, Sax, Keys, guitar, drums and bass. Our music
contains original compositions that has traditional Maori
instruments woven with modern sounds intertwined throughout.
Our waiata (songs) depict another view of New Zealand
society through the eyes of Rural Maori.
We promote Healthy Lifestyle Choices that challenge New
Zealanders to address the issues of Domestic Violence, all
forms of abuse, Pollution, Social and Economic issues, The
body image and the need for Global Unity and the passion we
have for preserving the environment that we live in.
We feel that our music is for people ‘across’ the board,
nationally and internationally.
It will satisfy a growing need in the broad community for
sounds that are a fusion of traditionally Maaori and ‘New
Millennium contemporary Maaori Music’.

Profiles
ARTISANS RHYTHM BAND
It is a natural progression! The Artisans Band developed
from being part of the Artisans Fairs over summer. Because
of the opportunity to spontaneously improvise during these
market mornings we created our own unique sound which we
called “Acoustic Spontaneity”. This has become a vital part
of the Artisans Fair atmosphere by helping to create a
vibrant and colourful event.
So we feel that we are a vital part of the Arts community of
Northland and having the opportunity to celebrate our unique
sound at the Mid Winter Arts Festival 2007 is a special and
wonderful opportunity to perform our music to the greater
Northland community. “We feel it is a privilege to be a part
of Northlands foremost Arts festival.”
Band members:
Brothers: Tawhiri and Rangiera Littlejohn on Drums and Base,
Casey and David Meredith on percussion and guitar.
Steve Moase on Ukelele and flute, and Reuben on guitar.
Planning to come along to this stunning Northland World
Music Concert?
Tickets go on sale on Friday the 6th July at 9am and are $19
from Ticketek – either @ Forum North or
online, or from
Himalayan Trading Post, 25 Bank St, Whangarei.
